Description: Topotecan hydrochloride is a semisynthetic derivative of camptothecin from Campotheca acuminata. It inhibits the DNA topoisomerase I, which is often overactive in tumors. Stagnant cells are not affected. It is therefore a cytostatic agent for strongly expressing cells. It is used in refractory (metastatic) ovarian cancer and small cell bronchial carcinomas.
