Description: Tamsulosin hydrochloride is a benzenesulfonamide derivative that acts as an α-blocker. It binds to the α1-adrenoceptors and has a high selectivity for prostate receptors. Binding results in smooth muscle relaxation of the bladder neck, urethra, and prostate gland. The side effects are limited by the selectivity, it is therefore used against the symptoms of benign prostate enlargement (BPH).
